$2.5 billion in new county borrowing, across six bond packages

In one vote, the Board authorized new bonds for transit projects ($350 million), general capital projects ($380 million), voter-approved infrastructure ($350 million), Jackson Health System projects including a new electronic records system ($275 million), parks and public safety facilities ($480 million), and the seaport, including the county's fight to acquire the Fisher Island fuel depot ($700 million).

Why it mattersMost of this debt is repaid through dedicated taxes and port revenue rather than your property tax bill directly, but it locks in the county's spending priorities for decades. Commissioner Raquel Regalado cast the only no vote, warning about financing costs at over 6% interest and asking, "I don't understand why we're doing this at this moment... this can wait."

The Board gave final approval to an ordinance regulating micromobility devices, e-bikes, and motorized scooters on county rights-of-way, including how cities can enforce the rules and what civil penalties apply.

Why it mattersIf you ride, rent, or just share the road with an e-bike or scooter anywhere in the county, this is the rulebook that now applies.
